Rates last verified: August 12, 2026. The calculation uses profit contribution from one average order after Etsy fees and per sale costs, and assumes one listing fee per order. It then compares that contribution with the recurring costs you enter. Offsite Ads are not assumed. Gencyh is not affiliated with Etsy.
How Etsy break even works
Contribution per sale is the estimated amount left from one average order after Etsy fees and the product, shipping and other per sale costs you enter.
The calculator adds monthly fixed costs, advertising costs and other recurring costs, then divides that total by contribution per sale. The sales result is rounded up to a whole order.
If the average sale does not produce positive contribution, there is no mathematical break even sales count. The calculator stops and asks you to change the sale economics instead of showing a false result.
What belongs in recurring costs
Use monthly costs that do not increase directly with each order, such as software, workspace costs or a planned advertising budget. Keep product and fulfilment costs in the per sale fields so they are not counted twice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Etsy break even point?
It is the sales count where estimated contribution from orders is enough to cover the recurring business costs entered in the calculator.
Are Etsy fees included in the break even calculation?
Yes. The average sale contribution uses the same current Etsy fee engine as the main Etsy Fee Calculator.
Should advertising be a fixed cost or a per sale cost?
Use the monthly advertising field when you plan a set budget. If you are measuring attributed Etsy Ads performance, use the Etsy Ads ROAS Calculator instead.
What if my profit per sale is negative?
A negative or zero contribution cannot cover fixed costs through more sales. Improve price or per sale costs before calculating a break even count.
Why is break even sales rounded up?
Because a fraction of an order cannot cover the remaining cost. The first whole order that reaches or passes the cost total is shown.
